8 September 2025: a day that helps shape liberal history

On 8 September 2025, I officially announced my candidacy for the presidency of Open VLD. What followed exceeded all expectations: within just a few hours, massive support from the local branches poured in. Before noon, I already had more branches backing my candidacy than strictly required.

This swift and broad support proves that there is a hunger for a new story. A story in which we no longer remain stuck in compromises, but dare to choose a clear direction.

With Libra – Liberal Right Alternative – I want to write that story together with you. Libra stands for:

• a clear liberal course with individual freedom and responsibility at the center,

• a socio-economic right-wing policy that stimulates entrepreneurship,

• a strong rule of law and clear rules,

• a sober and rational energy and climate policy,

• and above all: a liberal party that once again becomes attractive to the voter who today no longer feels at home.

The milestone of 8 September is only the beginning. It is now up to us to seize this momentum and make the party thrive again with ideas, ambition, and determination.
