Welcome
My name is Filip Walleyn
I am from Bruges and have been a member of Open VLD for many years.
I have already received support from different regions and sections, which now makes me an official candidate.
As a candidate for chairmanship, I want to change the party’s course with a new name and a new story: Libra “Liberal Right Alternative”.
In the meantime, members have been informed that there are three candidates.
Who I am comes second; what I stand for is far more important. (see also our program summarized in 10 points)
The purpose of my candidacy is to make the Libra project known.
I personally love opera and believe that our party certainly has valuable tenors (or perhaps we should rather say sopranos) such as Hilde Vautmans in Europe, Eva De Bleeker in Flanders, and Alexia Bertrand at the federal level. I see my role more as a conductor and would like to work with them to write Libra’s story. In the coming days, I will sound out who is willing to join in.
I would also like to invite the initiative “Dare” to eventually support our project, and to include someone from MR as an advisor in order to avoid the creation of some kind of MR-Flanders, without however denying our own identity.
There is already too much fragmentation within the liberal landscape, and now is the time to join forces.
If I succeed in my mission, I want to defend the Libra project as “Liberal Right Alternative” at the European level, from an electable position.
We want to offer the (right-wing, traditionally liberal) voter an alternative free from populism or nationalism, currents that suffocate our liberal democracy as a whole.
10-Point Program
- A clear liberal course
We resolutely choose classical liberalism: individual freedom, responsibility, entrepreneurship, and a small, efficient government. No vagueness, no more ideological dilution. - Right-wing socio-economic policy
Lower taxes, fewer rules for entrepreneurs, activation instead of passivity. Libra stands for growth and jobs as drivers of social mobility. - Strong rule of law and security
Libra defends order, security, and justice. We stand firmly behind the police, justice, and strict enforcement of laws, including effective border control and clear migration rules. - Migration with reciprocity
Migration must be manageable, controlled, and based on integration capacity. Rights go hand in hand with duties, including acceptance of our liberal and democratic values. - Neutrality of the state, freedoms for the individual
Separation between religion and state is fundamental. We defend freedom of speech, education, and lifestyle for everyone, including the freedom to think differently. - Liberal climate and energy policy
Climate policy must be technological and rational, not doctrinaire. Free market, innovation, and realistic transitions are central, so that we maintain prosperity and avoid imposing unaffordable obligations on families and businesses. - Education with ambition and order
We reform education towards knowledge, discipline, and excellence. Teachers regain authority and students order and structure. Education must prepare young people for the world of tomorrow. - Locking social benefits
The social safety net remains, but abuse will be tackled hard. Those who can work, must work, with an activating policy that breaks prolonged dependence. Work must always pay off. - Institutional cooperation with MR
Libra becomes the natural Flemish partner of MR: a Francophone liberal sister party. We seek cooperation to keep Belgium governable and prosperous, without community deadlock. - Political courage, no more compromise politics
No fear of polarizing on content. Libra chooses its colors and speaks plainly. We break through the paralyzing compromise culture and offer a clear, responsible alternative.
